Q&A with Justin Achili

" 'So what belt do you have?' J.C. Penny! Belt mean no need rope hold up pants!"-Miyagi to Daniel, Karate Kid

Justin has been more than giving of his time (when he's had time to spare) and it's generosity that has allowed us to answer some lingering questions sometimes sprung up within game play

Question: After reading the Guide to the Sabbat book and reading the hints published, is it at all feasible for the Giovanni to have created a revenant family? If so would they be more of a workhorse type of family or would they be something akin to what the Cappadocians did with them? IE: found a family with mystical talents and brought them into the fold.

Justin Answer: Right now, it's just a hint. I don't see them as actually having access to a revenant family, but I think it's a scary thing to consider. The mortal family itself is definitely _not_ a revenant family, however -- what happened with those Tzimisce families is different than just creating a ghoul family (and part of what makes the Tzimisce so uniqely spooky).

Q: This is somewhat of an odd question as it deals with game mechanics but is it possible for the Giovanni using Necromancy to control other entities within the spirit world/shadow lands/umbra/whatever? Like what's to stop a Giovanni from doing research and binding a bane spirit? A kami? An infernal? I could assume if Necromancy could do this raised difficulties would ensue or would it be possible for the Giovanni to have invented a specialty? I ask this because it makes sense that the Giovanni at some point have had more than a few run ins with denizens from the outer planes of existence

JA: I'm sure they have had their run-ins, but Necromancy does not have any effect over anything other than ghosts. Everything else is outside the Giovanni realm of expertise. (I bet more than one person in the Giovanni family knows somehting about Spirit Thauamturgy, though...)

Q: Concerning spirit warding and physical manifestations within the Shroud/Umbra/Spirit World: How does that work? Naturally a ward vs. spirits will ward off a spirit but what does it do to a Garou who has unwittingly side stepped into the Umbra and crossed over that ward? Or for that matter a kindred, mage, mummy or anyone else who happens to be in the spirit realms and crosses that boarder? This one has actually come up about a year or so ago where a Kuei Jin stepped into the spirit world and tried to re-enter Fallen Angels.

JA: A spirit ward works only against things that are _exclusively_ spirits. Non-spirit things that are only temporarily in the spirit world are unaffected. Think of it in reverse, if that makes it easier -- if a vampire is in the spirit world, he doesn't cease to be a vampire; he's not a spirit any more than you jumping into the ocean would make you a fish.

Q: Being as you're probably one of the most fluent of the folks at WW on the Giovanni what exactly would be the Thaumaturgy paths that the Giovanni would possess outside of the older ones listed in the Clanbook?

JA: Anything they want, really. That's more of a question for an individual character than a generality, provided the character has had reasonable opportunity to learn such strange stuff (pretty rare in and of itself, I'd say).

Q: Any chance of the Nagaraja popping back up again and if so are they ruined and/or made apart of the Giovanni? This one of course is wishful thinking :)

JA: I think the Nagaraja are in pretty bad shape. Definitely not going to join the Giovanni in any real sense -- their Necromancies aren't the same and they've got different goals in mind.
